Abstract:
The primary objective of the payload is to collect images of star fields at high altitude, in viewing conditions very similar to those of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, practically unaffected by earth atmosphere. The camera and control computer system are part of the development of a Space Situational Awareness Sensor Test Laboratory by the Space Engineering Research Center (SERC) at Texas A&M University. Taking pictures of the stars with digital cameras will provide data for students and engineers to calibrate the photometric and astrometric precision of the sensor models developed in SERC’s Sensor Test Laboratory, which is located near Texas A&M University’s College Station campus
