Abstract:
College of the Canyons first launched SOLARIS in the middle of 2018, the data collected was used in part to support the validity of the project; to safely neutralize acidic buildup in the stratosphere. Overall, we succeeded in the mission but failed in the method; due to complications and our time constraint SOLARIS did not perform the analysis using its primary instrument: our spectrometer. Over the last year we’ve learned a lot and we’re ready to give our experiment another chance to conduct the experiment based upon its principle of operation. Having a successful proof of concept was imperative to the SOLARIS project; with the proof-of-concept deemed successful the team can now focus on fine tuning the test instruments and spending more time testing various delivery systems under environmental conditions. Ideally, SOLARIS will undergo some simple modifications but otherwise remain unaltered. This is the college’s first attempt at re-flying a payload, giving the team far more time to focus on the science ahead. Gaining time and cutting production costs, SOLARIS 2.0 has the benefit of collecting more data with ,ore powerful instrumentation, provide an opportunity to explore our science in greater detail, and allow more students to experience HASP by growing our team and allocating more funds to travel to integration and launch.
