Abstract:
The primary goal of this project is to explore how this angular asymmetry changes with altitude. The target balloon-float altitudes of 130,000 ft and more than 10 hour flight duration at balloon-float altitudes would allow our payload to make a high-quality, long-exposure measurement. Additionally, this project intends to study how the intensity of cosmic rays changes with altitude, from multiple arrival directions, providing a more complete picture of the high-altitude radiation environment caused by cosmic rays. The proposed project is anticipated to be carried out by seven Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) undergraduate students and three faculty advisors, i.e., two from the ECE department and one from the Physics department. The proposed payload will be designed for, and operated through, the existing HASP interfaces.
