21st Course: Astroparticle Physics: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow
1-7 August, 2018

TOPIC: Gravitational waves and detectors
LECTURER: Gabriela Gonzalez
Location: Louisiana State University

We will study the nature of gravitational waves as predicted by the theory of general relativity and astrophysical sources of gravitational waves. We will describe different classes of gravitational wave detectors (using pulsar timing, space and ground based interferometers), and go into more detail about the technology used in current LIGO detectors, as well as the sources of limiting noises. We will explore the challenges for designing more sensitive ground-based detectors.
