1-7 August, 2018

TOPIC: Dark matter: astrophysical evidence
LECTURER: Subir Sarkar
Location:

The existence of dark matter is inferred from observations of rotation curves of galaxies, of gravitational lensing, and of the growth of large-scale structure in the universe from primordial density fluctuations which are imprinted on the cosmic microwave background. I will provide a critical assesment of the data, and discuss whether ‘modified Newtonian dynamics’ can provide an alternative explanation.
