LaSPACE: Louisiana Space
Consortium Research
Grant Opportunities: An Introduction
The enhancement of space and aerospace related research
and development throughout Louisiana is a central program of LaSPACE, whose
major goal is to increase the competitiveness of Louisiana's scientists,
engineers, and mathematicians for federal research funds.
The goals and objectives of the Louisiana Space
Consortium are:
To increase, in quantity and in quality, Louisiana's production of aerospace
and related science and engineering graduates and professionals
To enhance in scope, depth, and number, research and development activities in
aerospace and related sciences and engineering, and
To indirectly increase aerospace and related industries in the state -- not
only for economic development but also for economic diversification.
LaSPACE and LA NASA EPSCOR offer several research grant
programs that provide support for faculty and students at LaSPACE member
institutions, particularly for the development of projects, contacts and
collaborations that will bring Louisiana scientists into the mainstream of
research activity, thereby increasing their chances for successfully competing
in the R&D marketplace.

Awardees. The research projects supported by LaSPACE have yielded
results as shown in the Research Bibliography.
Research awards under the LaSPACE and LA EPsCoR
programs aim to develop and strengthen long-term research capabilities that
will make significant contributions to NASA's Strategic Enterprises and which
will in turn contribute to the overall research infrastructure, science and
technology capabilities, graduate and economic development of the state.
Research projects and undergraduate education and undergraduate LURA projects
are related to NASA Strategic Enterprises. Each project in each list of
awardees has a symbol that designates the Strategic Enterprise related to that
project.
Research opportunities are often developed through
professional networking and contacts, and the NASA field centers provide a source of personnel
involved in a wide variety of aerospace research & development. LaSPACE
works with the NASA centers to develop liaisons for Louisiana researchers.
Additionally, opportunities for research or education
projects are gathered from all federal agencies through their Broad Agency
Announcements, Research Announcements, Program Books, and specialized
solicitations. The LaSPACE office strives to be included on all agency mailing
lists. In addition, LaSPACE receives copies of all relevant material received
at the LSU Office of Sponsored Research. These announcements are duplicated and
distributed to all consortium campuses in periodic mailings and electronic
distributions from the LaSPACE office. Researchers can join the LaSPACE
listserv by sending an email to
laspace@lsu.edu.
NASA and other agencies increasingly rely on electronic
notification as a replacement for the post card mail out method previously
used. So, researchers must join listservs in order to receive notifications of
grant opportunities.
NASA requires all applicants to have a DUNS number and
to be registered in the Central Contractor Registry (CCR) prior to submitting a
proposal. Click here to read a
copy of NASA's announcement of these new requirements.
LaSPACE encourages local business and industry to seek
relationships with NASA as well. The following links give instructions for
developing business opportunities with NASA.
