International School of Cosmic Ray Astrophysics
16th Course: "Gamma Ray and Cosmic Ray Astrophysics: From below GeV to beyond EeV Energies"
5-12 July 2008
Ettore Majorana Centre
Erice, Sicily, Italy
"Celebrating 30 years of Maurice M. Shapiro's ISCRA"
Objective: The world of High Energy Astrophysics is fast paced with many new results and interpretations appearing from; AGILE, PAMELA and GLAST space missions, ICECUBE and Amanda experiments at the south pole, ACT gamma ray astronomy from several installations, underwater measurements from the Mediterranean Sea sites, to mention only a few. Students hear about these results but often cannot place them in context. This 30th anniversary course will introduce participants to these emerging sub-fields, provide background and context, describe recent results and discuss their interpretation within a unified view of our high energy universe. Both theoretical and experimental/observational students will be challenged through an exciting program of lectures and direct contact with senior researchers in the field. Over many years, the ISCRA has fostered the training of young researchers, and this course will highlight some of the achievements of the school.
